Remembering Christian

August 11, 2020

Today, we remember Christian Castle who fatally drowned on the evening of August 11, 2006 while swimming with his closest friends and brother. Five lifeguards were present.

Laura Castle, his mom says that many of his favorite things were works of fantastical heroism such as Peter Pan, Robin Hood, The Incredibles, Spiderman, Superman, and Toy Story. All embodied the same distinctive heroic qualities of the “Macho Man”.

The Castle family also embodies the term “hero” as they commit to educating the public about Respecting the Water and teaching young children ISR Self-Rescue skills that can help save lives.

Part of ISR’s comprehensive program involves educating parents and children about specific survival swimming techniques used in and around the water.

What can I do to prevent fatal drownings and help save lives?

  1. Learn to swim
  2. CPR education
  3. Being a Water Watcher while children are in and near any body of water.
  4. Wearing life jacket when boating and fishing.

The Drowning Prevention Coalition of El Paso’s mission is to promote, develop and support training and community education efforts that prevent fatal drownings, non-fatal drownings and other water-related incidents in El Paso County and the surrounding area.
