Drowning Prevention Coalition Host Christian Castle Lifeguard Olympics On Sunday, August 7, 2022 8:00 a.m. at Wet ‘N Wild Waterworld El Paso, TEXAS

The Drowning Prevention Coalition of El Paso will host the 14th annual Christian Castle Lifeguard Olympics at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Wet ‘n’ Wild Waterworld. The Competition is named after Christian Castle who lost his life through a drowning sixteen years ago and is the son of Laura and Eddie Castle who together started the Drowning Prevention Coalition in 2008. This competitive, annual event is a competition among lifeguards from swim expert organizations throughout the city with the opportunity to compete in lifesaving skills while highlighting the training and duties that lifeguards experience on a daily basis in their day-to-day jobs. Lifeguard teams competing are four teams from Wet ‘N’ Wild Waterworld, three teams from Fort Bliss, and one team from the Socorro Independent School District Aquatics. Teams are rounded out with one from the YMCA Paso Del Norte Branch, along with 11 teams from the City of El Paso. The event is hosted by the Drowning Prevention Coalition of El Paso with each team having four members with at least one female. There are five separate skill challenges which include A Mass Casualty Exercise, Shallow Water Back Boarding, Backboard Treading, a two-minute Drill Rescue and a Tow Relay. Awards will be given for First through Third Place in each individual skill challenge and an overall champion will be announced at the end of the competition. The Drowning Prevention Coalition is an organization of over 31 agencies in the El Paso area and region dedicated to spreading the message of “Respect the Water” while teaching water safety and providing opportunities for children and adults with Learn to Swim lessons.
